How to carve a watermelon for your next summer BBQ...

So last week I went to a bbq and my husband told me the night before we were to bring dessert. Well I didn't have time to get to the store, but I had a watermelon in the fridge so I decided IT was going to be dessert and I wanted to jazz it up a bit by carving it.

I love all things artistic and especially where you can work on something that you mess up until it looks right, ha ha! So this is how I did it....

You take a watermelon

Draw your desired design on it

Mine was not that pretty, ha ha

I used a pairing knife to begin carving on both sides of the line I had drawn, not going very deep, and removing that skin

I then left a half an inch and cut all the way through along the design to remove the top of the watermelon.

I then used an ice cream scoop to remove all the watermelon. (A melon baller would probably be a better more beautiful option, but this is what I had)

I then cut up all the watermelon into chunks and replaced it back into the rind.

I kept the top as the lid and took it off when we got to the BBQ!

That is it!

It took some time, but I enjoyed it.

What do you all think?

Check out the great parties I will be linking too HERE

we have the same ice cream scoop. and you're a better gal than me; I would have gotten frustrated, and stood in my kitchen scooping out the watermelon and eating it. it happens every time.
