Heart Therapy: If I Were Good Enough

Share it Please

I think
Heart Therapy
 has been a beneficial aspect here, I know it has been for me, and I still want to be real and honest and encourage all of us to be more so on our blogs.

 It's too easy to get sucked into acting how we are "supposed" to be or feel as opposed to how we really are.
 {Especially in blog world where most people don't know you anyways, it's easy to wear a mask}

Last year I went through a book when I was struggling with my depression and I thought this exercise was good.

You make a list under the title

"If I were good enough right now...."

What are the things we are telling ourselves we can't do, but only if we were more....fill in the blank.

If I was good enough I would....

{Mine was/is....}

Be a better wife/mother
Be more attractive
Have a better relationship with God
Excel at something/anything
Be a Christian leader
Be a Christian author/speaker
Sell something artsy
Lose weight
Train and run a marathon

The idea is to read your list to someone you love and get his/her reaction.

How would you react to someone you love and their list?

Then start doing those things on that list.
{because you can}

What would be on your list?

  1. What an inspirational idea and post. I have a hard time loving myself and this is a really tough assignment! It is a good challenge though and I might put it to the test. I hope you have a wonderful New Year! I also believe in what you see is what you get, and I agree with being truthful on blogs and in life.

  2. Wow, that last quote really has me thinking.
    Such great reflection points and I love your list of what you want to be. I have no doubt you will checking those off.

  3. A-ma-zing post. I am all about self-judgment, and I know so many other women who are. I have been beating myself a bit lately about wanting to be a better wife, be skinny, be a better cook/housekeeper/domestic diva. I'm taking full-time classes & working 2 jobs, and chastised myself for receiving my first non-A grade (a B+). This is great. Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. I LOVE that quote about our behind-the-scenes to everyone else's highlight reel. I am completely guilty of doing that. Sometimes I get super frustrated and have to remind myself that those people that I truly admire, are only human!
    To look at my blog, you might think I am the perfect little housewife. But I'm not. We still have messes, failures and struggles every single day!

    I have a print on my kitchen counter in a frame that says, "I choose to hold myself to a standard of Grace, not Perfection." I think that's what we should strive for. No one is perfect, but we have the Grace of God and that's enough :)

    P.S. You're gorgeous! Just thought I would mention that :)

  8. Thank you for providing us a place to share our beneath-the-surface posts. You are beautiful. Sometimes I forget that all that I am is quite exactly enough because I am so busy wanting to be someone else.
